Peristaltic pumps, are a type of positive displacement pump used for moving fluids. Their operation is based on the biological principle of peristalsis, a wavelike muscular contraction that moves substances through the digestive tract.
A flexible tube, often made of silicone or other elastomers, is housed within a circular pump casing. Rollers or shoes, mounted on a rotating rotor, compress the tube in a sequential manner. This action creates a temporary seal, trapping a volume of fluid and pushing it forward. As the roller passes, the tube recovers its original shape, creating a vacuum that draws in more fluid for the next cycle. The fluid never comes into contact with the pump’s internal components, only the inner surface of the tube.
Advantage of peristaltic Pump is Contamination-free transfer: Since the fluid only contacts the tubing, the risk of contamination is minimized. This makes peristaltic pumps ideal for applications requiring sterility or handling delicate fluids.
A syringe pump is a motorized device designed for the accurate and controlled delivery or withdrawal of small volumes of fluids using one or more syringes. Essentially, a motor-driven mechanism, usually a stepper motor, pushes or pulls the plunger of a syringe, allowing for precise control over the fluid’s flow rate and volume. Mechanism: Syringe pumps utilize a motorized linear actuator to move a platform attached to the syringe’s plunger while keeping the syringe body fixed. The motor’s speed and direction dictate the flow rate and volume of the dispensed or withdrawn fluid.
